The Qingdao Daewon International School (QDIS) is a boarding, co-educational college preparatory school which was found in a collaboration between Qingdao Jungyang School from China and Daewon Foreign Language High School (DFLHS) in Seoul, Korea. The QDIS learning community may be small, but we have inherited the educational expertise of DFLHS. Our curriculum focuses on supporting students to become competent on a global scale by encouraging our learners to become proficient in three languages: English, Chinese, and Korean. The primary teaching assignment is to teach up to two hundred-minute blocks each day, leaving instructors responsible for around 25 students at any one time during the year. English Instructor is expected to provide students a sense of cultural and global perspectives via inquiry-based learning. In the QDIS, speaking persuasively, writing convincingly, and thinking critically are emphasized throughout a student¡¯s English learning career. The ideal candidate would be comfortable guiding students in all courses from SAT test prep through contemporary literature courses. Also, we are expecting all the English Literature Instructors to participate in writing workshops, including essay development and revision. In addition to teaching, an instructor would be expected to collaborate in our periodic gathering of a level team and department meetings, and participate in our students¡¯ experiences outside the classroom by supporting either athletics or residential life and serving as a mentor to a small group of students. Interested candidates who find themselves in sympathy with QDIS¡¯s teaching and learning model and supportive of QDIS¡¯s expectations for all instructors should express their interest by submitting the application to qdshr@qdis.org.
